F2 cars
Commonly used name for cars in A7 class (up to 2000cc atmospheric engine and two wheel drive).

FIA
Federation Internationale de l'Automobile. Not entirely restricted to motorsports even though that is FIA what is most known for. FIA is governing body that draws up rules for series and competitions but leaves actual organizing for third parties. Officially (and according to their statutes) FIA is non-profit organisation dedicated to furthering general motoring safety and representing all world motorists.

FISA
The sporting division of the FIA, created by reforming of CSI in 1979. Was originally a separate entity but got incorporated into FIA in 1993.

Flexi-service
Instead of servicing all of teams' cars simultaneously, in flexi-service concept cars are serviced one at a time, reducing the need of service crew.

Fly-by-wire
A system where mechanical link between control elements has been replaced by other means, usually electronic control. Term originates from aerospace industry, hence the reference to flying.

Flying finish
End of the timed part of the stage. Rally cars go flat out up to this point and begin slowing down only from then on. The time control which marks the proper finish of the stage is some hundred meters further down the road, that is where car stops and time card is stamped.

Footprint
Tyres are grooved to improve grip and consequently all of tyre's surface is never in contact with the ground. Contact area is called footprint. Footprint area is determined by width of the tyre, tyre radius, tyre pressure and rubber compound hardness.
